Why this exists

The research does not fix the fear. A system does.

We read more than 26,000 messages across seven Indian mothers' WhatsApp groups. The nanny question came up more than any other topic, in every single group, more than twice as often as the next one. And almost nobody in those groups talks about how to check a nanny. They pass on names. That is the gap this kit fills.

Law 1

Under the POSH Act 2013, your home is legally a “workplace” and you are an “employer” from the very first domestic worker you hire — “irrespective of the number, time period or type of such worker employed.” Almost no Indian family knows this. The kit tells you what it means in practice, in plain words.

Law 2

Cameras in the common areas of your own home are broadly fine if you tell her in advance and in writing. A camera in a bathroom, a changing area, or a live-in caregiver's sleeping room can be a criminal offence. The kit draws the line so nobody in your family crosses it by accident.

Reality

“One month's bonus at Diwali” is not a law and not a convention: in the Bengaluru and Chennai household surveys we found, most families give no bonus at all. The kit gives you the actual numbers so you can decide, rather than guess.
